WSB-TV Spotlights Juvenile Justice Fund’s Visitation Centers programOn April 11th, WSB-TV/Channel 2’s 5 o’clock news segment spotlighted the Juvenile Justice Fund’s Visitation Centers program. This feature was the kick-off the WSB-TV series titled Georgia’s Forgotten Children, a year-long effort to raise awareness about Georgia’s foster care system. The feature detailed the impact the Visitation Centers program had on the reunification of two of the families who have participated in the program.
Reunification of families, when it is in the best interest of the child, is the goal of the program. Through a community and public partnership, the Visitation Centers program provides for visitation of foster children with their families in an inviting setting during evening and weekend hours. Annually, this program services over 350 families seen in Fulton County Juvenile Court.
The series will give information on the difficulties the foster care system faces, and how Georgia residents can help. The series will include periodic specials during primetime viewing hours throughout the year and segments on Channel 2 Action News that will highlight Georgia's child welfare system. In addition to the series, wsbtv.com will provide a special online resource guide.
